On this page we are publishing the introduction of our project in which our teacher and some of us explain what it is about.
Introduction by: Miss Pilar
This project was about encouraging health and good nutrition habits.
Our questions were:
What is obesity?
What factors contribute
to overweight and obesity?
What problems are
caused by obesity?
How can we prevent
obesity?
The main objectives of this project were:
To lead
Fourth Graders to understand what obesity is and what problems it causes.
To help them develop technology skills by learning
different computer programs.
This topic was chosen due to the fact that we as
educators are aware that Childhood overweight and
obesity should be of particular concern to parents, teachers and health workers
for various reasons. During the project the students learned that being obese brings
both, physically and psychologically repercussions to children who are overweight.
One main goal of our project was to motivate and encourage
students from our school to be fit and healthy.
DISCUSSION
Forty students participated in the project, they were
divided in groups and each group chose a name and a slogan.
A task was assigned to each group every two weeks, and
each member had to hand in the task to his/her group president and publish it
in his/her personal Think Quest
page.
Students learned that in order to prevent some illnesses
such as diabetes, young people should learn how to prepare nutritionally
balanced and inexpensive meals. For this reason they prepared healthy meals and
they presented their recipes through short movies. They also presented their recipes
using the iPhoto Program.
